Church Lowers Age for Missionaries

Today's blockbuster announcement from the first session of the 182nd semi-annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will give the option to young men to begin serving as full-time missionaries at age 18 (down from 19) and to young women to begin serving at 19 (down from 21).

In the half-hour press conference that followed the morning session, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Executive Missionary Committee, described himself as "giddy" over the news that was guarded by the Quorum of the Twelve and the First Presidency until today's announcement by Church President Thomas S. Monson. I had exactly the same reaction as Elder Holland.
