ReplyDeleteThis is unrelated to the post, but I'm hoping you can help me help someone else.
You might remember I wrote a couple of months ago about a friend with worsening scoliosis who was dropped from his insurer and who is struggling to get enough work. He's an electrical contractor. He had to lay off everyone except his college-attending son, who works for him part-time.
He just admitted to me that he needs to make a career change, but it's not because of money. He's in his mid-50's. His body simply can't take it anymore; the scoliosis is taking a terrible toll. I've seen this in action, too. I came by his house some months ago while he and his wife were sweeping the walk. He was moving like an old man, so I was egging him about it, unaware of his condition. I felt a little embarrassed when I learned the truth.
As I said in my previous post, he's the salt of the earth, and has been running his company for about 20 years. Since you work at the Employment Resource Center, what resources/programs/professionals might they have that can help him explore his options? Who should he contact to get started? Are there other resources/programs/people that might help him?
